October 2000 - Lee's Travelers Club, Singapore

Lee's Travelers Club is a good choice for budget accommodation in Singapore.  It is located on Beach Road not far from Raffles Hotel.  Though you may not have the luxury of Singapore Slings at the Long Bar, you are treated to free tea and toast every morning, friendly, helpful staff everyday and laughs on the couch in the common room every night.  Lee's had all the necessities a traveler needs: laundry service, travel reservation service, books for sale, tour information, transportation tickets and more.  Quite a few people have been plucked from near obscurity off of Lee's couch and dropped into the glamorous world of Singapore's movie industry.  The rooms are a bit small (eight to a dorm room is pushing it) but they are clean and everyone really tries to get along with each other.  The price can't be beat at $8 USD for a dorm bed and $20 USD for a double.
The Central Business District is a treasure trove of modern skyscraper architecture.  Take a stroll here during lunch and watch the yuppies in their natural habitat.
